The Basics of Weight Control

FYI the Basics of Weight Control is not necessarily eating a healthy salad every day.
Overall a person has to make better choices. 😊

Your weight is controlled by a number of things, including family history, what you eat and drink (energy intake), and the energy you use to live and be active (energy output).

To lose weight you need to:

● Eat and drink fewer calories (This is honestly not always true!  Keep reading!)
● Become more physically active
● Burn more calories than you take in.
● For best results, do all of these things.  You need help?  Click here now!
● Doing all of these things also includes cardiovascular exercise, weight training (resistance training), any other physical activity that burns calories.

Most of us know this and completely understand this and many of you sit there right now and say "Yea Kel, I know and understand that already!!!  "So why am I still overweight??  Tell me something new!"  You ask yourself and really wonder??  All of the above is true about eating and drinking fewer calories, becoming more physically active, you need to start doing more cardiovascular exercise plus weight training, you have to burn more calories than you take in,

However.......

The key that makes this all work is burning more calories than you take in is a direct result of eating enough calories to begin with... and MOST people honestly don't consume enough calories "on a daily basis" to kick in their body's natural metabolism.  I help my clients monitor and track this and you might find yourself surprised that 99% of people who desire to lose weight and lose body fat, do NOT consume enough calories on a daily basis.  They always swear that they eat enough or that they eat plenty.  But all of these things are just their own "perceptions" and they are not specific on the amount of calories.  They are usually eating way too much at dinner and having improperly balanced meals or snacking too much (even on good food.)  In other words, more than likely you are not eating and consuming enough calories to lose weight.

The food you eat and the beverages you drink provide energy, calories, vitamins and nutrients. The basic required nutrients are: water, carbohydrate, protein, fat, dietary fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Three of these nutrients (carbohydrate, protein, and fat) along with alcohol provide energy in the form of calories. Are You Eating Enough?

When you take in more calories than you use, you gain weight.  Do keep in mind, you have to consume enough calories FIRST.  (And MOST people and I'd say about 99% of people that I talk to about weight loss do not consume an adequate amount of calories on a daily basis)

Most of the calories you do not use daily are stored as body fat. This is true regardless of whether this energy came from fat, carbohydrate, protein or alcohol. However honestly it is not very easy or likely that most people will consume too much protein or an excess of protein (that is stored as fat)  So people in the medical community won't agree with me on this but let those educational people keep on thinking what they want.  You can use more calories by being more active (as mentioned above)  You can manage your weight by keeping a balance between what you eat and drink and how active you are.  More on weight management.  Also see weight management tips.
